this last weekend (well…really last wednesday through monday) pauly and i went on a little adventure to visit some of our thunderbird friends and get some much needed vitamin D!! also, our cousin jillayne (whom we all affectionately call: ‘joleen’ ‘jillarious’ or (my favorite) ‘aunt chilada’), had some business there as well, so we got to stay for FREE at her hotel(and hang with her, of course, the best part!)!!! AND pauly discovered some frequent flier miles we had saved up, so our flights cost us a total of $10! whoop whoop!! free loading off the man! that’s my kind of vacation! at the hotel, we enjoyed free breakfast each morning, including an amazing omelette bar, pancakes, french toast, hash browns, and fruit…..delish. also an amazing pool to tan our pasty white minnesota flesh (minor sunburns for us both), and complementary happy hour where we stocked up on pita and hummus daily. oh did i mention i gained, meh…10 pounds give or take…yeah. worth it. best trip ever.
we had SO much fun catching up with old friends from t-bird, enjoying an AMAZING backyard bbq hosted by our friends(blog on that to follow), and eating at some of our favorite dinner spots! pauly golfed a bunch, which was just so good for his soul :), and we visited with friends from t-bird who just had an ADORABLE baby boy! (and they made us homemade pizzas, so we felt right at home!)
the only downside was our flight home. it was a literal sand storm all day in az (um…can you say allergies??!!), and when we got to airport we weren’t even sure if our flight would be able to leave. we did, and IT. WAS. AWFUL. it was the WORST turbulence paul or i had ever experienced. it felt like we were being sucked up fast into the air and then sucked down faster toward the earth. have you ever seen the movie ‘flight’? yeah. like that. tipping side to side…people were screaming during parts. i have never prayed so hard in my life……they couldn’t have beverage service until right before we landed……THEN when we got to “calmer air” (please note the GIANT air quotes around that), it started to lightening storm….seriously….lightening bolts flashing outside my window. FINALLY we pulled out of that and for the last 30 minutes it was fairly smooth sailing…THANK YOU JESUS for keeping up safe. i don’t, however, have ANY desire to fly again any time soon.
but, still. great trip.
so, on a happier note here is the start of pictures for this trip. LOTS more to come!
