fargo tim(e)

this is a really clever title. not only did i go to fargo last weekend, but ALSO my uncle TIM was there visiting from montana. (ba-dum-ching!)

tim is my mom’s brother, and whenever he comes to town, it’s a week of nonstop reminiscing, laughing, pastry eating, coffee drinking, and general merriment making. i was, unfortunately, there only for the last day of his visit, but it was so fun nonetheless.

it’s amazing, when he visits although we haven’t seen him in a few years, we all pick up right where we left off. the connection is still close and i love that about family. no matter what, you’re stuck with each other in life, so you might as well make the best of it…..that’s the lesson in all that, right? ;)   but really..  i am more grateful for my family each time we are together.

here are the highlights! also: lots of exciting things happening this week too…so check back soon!

my uncle....who drove all the way from montana......so special for us all...this is the only picture i took with him in it. whoops...... but he had never played corn-hole before, so this is a pretty great pic to get, since i only took one.

the great thing about my family getting together, is that it often means my WHOLE family on my mom's side gets together...well...almost everyone...well...some of us....whatever.....it's just fun to see anyone i can put in the 'family' category.

how ’bout those celtics?

when i was younger, sometimes i would be embarrassed if my dad would tell me ‘i love you’ in public. why? *sigh…..i don’t know…i mean, this guy…..just the best…how could i be embarrassed?!! ………..add it to the list of times i want to go back in time and slap my former self across the face….

anyway, we came up with this saying as code: he would say: hey leagy (pronounced lee-jee) how ’bout those celtics? and i would say: how ’bout ‘em dad. and we both knew what we meant. it was awesome.

at our wedding my dad told this story in his speech (oh man..i can hardly think this/type it without tearing up!!) and at the end he said, ‘but now is not the time for that saying, now is the time for the real deal: i love you leagy!’ i mean, come on! tear-city!! ( speaking of …i am sure everyone here at the coffee shop is like, ‘why is that girl typing and crying…..all by herself….should i go over there? ….no…i’m sure she’s fine…just turn your chair away…’  or at least that’s what i would think..)

okay, so my dad. i sat down and thought long and hard about all the things i wanted to type in this. and it’s really hard to condense (*almost* cough cough) 30 years of dad-ness into one post. i mean, where to start? where to end? …………what to put in the middle?? those kinds of things….

so here’s what i will tell you: my dad set the standard for all  men in my life. he was the one that all other boys and men have ever been compared to. he showed me what daily dedication to your walk with the Lord looks like. he showed me how to love people and make them feel special. he taught me all i know about basketball and baseball…which i am pretty sure secured my fate when i met paul..(“oh you like the twins…that’s nice…i used to play world series with my dad in the backyard…so yeah…i guess you could say i like the twins too.. have you ever heard of the boston celtics?”) my dad was always the dad that every little boy wanted to play sports with. he would play catch with my cousins and friends on his lunch break! who does that? he has a way with kids. he is loving and SO generous. he is HILARIOUS and my absolute favorite thing in the world is getting my dad laughing…..he is so deep-down-in-his-heart kind. just a sweet, good, hardworking father and husband.he is the reason i will sing “jesus, jesus” to my kids at bed time. and read them the chronicles of narnia….  so, when i say my dad is the best. i mean it in every sense. he is the best.

so…in the future…..when you say “oh my dad is so great!” don’t be alarmed when i respond”…..shhhhh…..honey…..shhhh….. (head pat, head pat), that’s adorable…….NO. my dad’s the best.”

but the great news is i can just save us all a bunch of time on facebook and twitter and instagram and whatever  and just set the record straight…MY dad is the best. end of story.

so, daddy-o. i love you WAY more than i can express in my limited ability to type coherent sentences. i love you and respect you and am so grateful and thankful for you every. single. day. i can’t imagine my life without you!!

how ’bout those celtics? :)

david’s done gone and got hisself graduated: the party!

so here are the rest of the awesome pics from david’s graduation! i am too exhausted (from events to be detailed in a post coming soon!) to write too much about it, but i will just say: this was the best freaking party ever. of course i will write first about the food…it was unreal. it was burger joint food: chocolate malts, burgers, and fresh fried french fries. it. was. to. DIE. for! tompkins do such a great job hosting parties in their home. they are so welcoming and inviting, and it was just such a great time to celebrate david! i hope you enjoy these pics as much as i enjoyed the french fries!

the food. i mean, just take in the awesome-ness of this picture...

david’s done gone and got hisself graduated: the ceremony.

how’s that for a title? :)

well, it’s happened: the last of the cousins on my mom’s side has graduated. i really can’t believe it. (not so) little david graduated on sunday from park christian school.  we were all SO proud of him and all his hard work!

like i said, i really can’t believe it. when paul and i got married, david was 10 years old!! 10!! times just goes by so fast–i can’t stand it! but with that time has come amazing adventures in our life, and we are so excited for the new adventures in david’s future. he is a strong Godly man (it makes me giggle a little to say man, because in my head he is still 10…or younger….), but he really is so faithful and steadfast in his walk with the Lord, and we really admire that about him. he is one of the funniest guys we know…hands down…and we always ALWAYS have a blast with him whenever we are together. as you will see by all our pictures…

i think this will be at least a two part-er..there were just too many fun things happening for this to be just one blerg posting!

so…drumroll please……part one of ‘david graduates’ ( i have the graduation march stuck in my head right now, so please feel free to click here for some appropriate background music):

the graduate!! what a stud. and do you see those GOLD CORDS?! yep. honors. like a boss.
